About Me
My name is Tom Thome and I am a Social Studies teacher here at Lucas High School. This is my sixth year teaching and fifth at Lucas High School. I am the primary 9th grade World History and 10th grade American History teach at the high school and have taught electives such as Your Life, Psychology and Investigating America. Currently I work with the Varsity football team and have coached baseball and track in the past. I am a 2007 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where I majored in History with a focus on Modern (1800- Present) European History. My favorite time period to research and teach is Imperial Russia. At OWU I was a member of the Varsity Football team for four years and the Track team for two. I am a huge sports fan, routing for the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. I reside in Macedonia, Ohio with my dog Bernard.
Educational Philosophy
I believe the main purpose of our educational process should be to produce students who have gained the knowledge, and experiences needed to be successful and productive members of our ever-changing society. I believe we as teachers have one of the most crucial occupations in the World. Without teachers there are no other occupations. The experience we provide our students should be one of variety, variety in teaching methods, learning experiences, and activities. We should produce students who have the ability to evaluate, identify and resolve problems. Secondary education is essential to a student’s life because it is here that they develop realistic and useful goals for their life. Students who can make competent decisions about their future endeavors, whether it is continued education at the college, university, or technical school level or to be members of the work force. Our students should be able to face life as adults with confidence because we did our job as educators. I firmly believe all students have the capacity to learn and my mission is to reach all students in a manner to produce high level learning for each individual.
